Softel Systems reports to an independent board of directors providing corporate governance and oversight of the business. The non-executive board and executive management team comprises:

Michael has been non-executive chairman of Softel since 2010. Michael provides board leadership and corporate governance oversight of the operating business. Michael is a highly respected and pre-eminent lawyer, commercial advisor and businessman with a career spanning more than 35 years across corporate, commercial and intellectual property law. He has specialist expertise in commercialising and growing businesses both in Australia and internationally. Michael also holds directorships of several public and private companies.
Michael has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Monash University.

Michael joined the Softel Board as a non-executive director in August 2019. Michael is a Chartered Accountant and Partner at Syracuse accounting firm. Michael has over 18 years experience in the commercial and financial markets, is a graduate of the AICD’s Company Director Course, and sits on a number of boards in varying industries.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting, Banking and Finance) from Monash University, and is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Advisor and Tax Agent.

Alan is non-executive director of the Softel Systems group of companies which was founded in 2002. Between 2002 and 2017, he was founder, CEO and also held a number of roles which evolved as Softel Systems grew to the thriving business it is today. With an extensive career in Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Networks and Security, Alan played multiple roles of management, business development and technical lead, engendering high levels of customer trust to develop enduring business relationships and build a long-term successful business. Currently a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD), he has been a member of, and active participant in, the international standards groups: European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) and the 3GPP Partnership Project (3GPP) for the development of mobile broadband standards.

Peter Harrison

Peter is Softel’s CEO and holds a key seat on the Softel board. Peter is responsible for all aspects of the business and financial performance. Peter’s key focus is the continued development of new capabilities to directly support Softel’s customers in the Telecommunication, Government, and Defence industries.
Peter was previously the Managing Director and CEO of Harris C4i prior to joining Softel. Peter spent 20 years building and growing this technology business to have a diversified technology portfolio and large international customer base. He has more than 30 years of experience in the security, defence and communications industry in Australia and overseas.
Peter is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds both a Bachelor’s degree and Graduate Diploma in software engineering.

Karen Colebatch

Karen leads Softel’s financial operations and is responsible for all finance areas of the business. Karen is a key member of the executive working across Softel’s operations and planning of key customer projects. With a steadfast commitment to process improvement & efficiency, Karen continuously optimises all aspects Softel’s business driving straight forward and efficient finance interactions between Softel and our clients.
Karen has over 15 years of professional accounting experience in a broad range of industries. Karen has a strong background in public practice and private sector specialising in managerial accounting.
Karen is a Qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business.

Jason leads Softel’s world class Engineering and Development. Leveraging his over 30 years of IT & Engineering industry experience, Jason drives the creation of world leading technology solutions to our client problems.
Jason has a proven track record in the design and development of robust, scalable and future-proof software solutions, predominantly in the Telecommunications, Security, Finance and Banking sectors. He remains a key contributor to the design and development of the our leading cylent products.
Jason holds both a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours in Industrial IT (Software Engineering) and a Masters of Science (with Distinction) in Communication Systems.

Scott leads the delivery of technology projects and roll out to our clients. With a resolute commitment to our clients, he is also responsible for Softel’s support services.
Through Scott’s over 30 years’ experience in the IT, Engineering and technology industry he brings a wealth of knowledge and pre-emptive problem solving to all our projects. Scott’s experience positions our projects for success each and every time. This ability is also translated into our support services where he proactively leads our 24×7 “always on” service.
Scott holds both a Graduate Diploma and Masters in Information Technology, along with certificates in Computing and Project Management.

Dr. Rob Distel

Rob leads Softel’s cutting edge Research & Development programmes. Continuously exploring the ‘art of the possible,’ Rob ensures Softel’s client projects benefit from the best available science, technology and process. With an eye on the future Rob ensures Softel is able to offer our clients the benefits from the latest available technology.
More than theory, Rob has over 30 years of hands-on experience in a broad range of engineering roles predominately focussed in the communications, security, networking, software, and large complex systems. He has been responsible for the design and development of innovative and new communications products for Air Defence and Air Traffic control solutions. In addition to these successful hardware and software networked products, Rob has also been involved in Big Data and Data analytics systems in the biomedical device market.
Rob holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering), along with a Bachelors and Masters in Engineering.
